Rio Tinto Alcan received a letter (dated November 17, 2006) from the BC Government’s Environmental Assessment Project Assessment Director. The letter advises Rio Tinto Alcan that, “the proposed modernization of Kitimat Works is not a reviewable project under the Regulation, as it does not meet Threshold A, B or D.” This letter is available in PDF file attachment provided.
In December 2007, the company received environmental approval from the British Columbia Ministry of Environment for an environmental permit to extend through to completion of the new plant and achieving operational stability.
